AI + Elections Clinic in Atlanta

Yesterday I was pleased to join an artificial intelligence and elections “boot camp” at the Carter Center in Atlanta for regional elections officials. The full day workshop covered best practices, ethical considerations and security risks, along with hands‑on training in creating customized applications to improve election efficiency and security.

This is the fifth AI + Elections Clinic that Arizona State University’s Mechanics of Democracy Lab has organized around the country, and it was a welcoming mix of practical learning and open conversation among election officials, technologists, and researchers. I was there to sharpen my work around AI and the courts, and came away with a number of new ideas to explore.

Watching election officials up their game in the face of today’s challenges is a very affirming experience. Hats off to William Gates at ASU, Michael Moore with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office, Emet Strategies and others for organizing a high-value workshop.
